About College

about-us

Nehru College, Bahadurganj, was established in 1965 with the pious goal to create a vibrant educational environment that would cater to the social, cultural, and economic conditions of this region which is predominantly backward and having a huge ‘minority’ population. The area has historically remained in ‘darkness’ due to its location in the margin of the state of Bihar. Grappling with the problems of illiteracy and socio-economic backwardness, the establishment

of the college was surely a huge strive towards the betterment of the area. The College was a dream project of Mr. Rafique Alam, former Union Minister in the Government of India. It was his vision which found wings through the donation of 22 acres of land from Md. Shafquat Hussain along with generous monetary aids from the local philanthropists, who were mostly poor and uneducated but cherishing a great desire and love for proper education.

In 1965, the college started functioning as a part of the Bhagalpur University, Bhagalpur, but with the birth of Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga in the year 1972, the college was taken over by the latter. Nehru College, however, acquired the Constituent Status of the Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhhanga on 25th November, 1980. The college, later, was taken over by Bhupendra Narayan Mandal University, Madhepura, in 1992. After having spent 26 long years of academics under the aegis of B. N. Mandal University, Madhepura, Nehru College, Bahadurganj is now a proud constituent of the Purnea University, Purnia.

In its 53 years of continuous service to the region, the biggest achievement of Nehru College is that it has successfully promoted and propagated not only general and moral education but also produced a fraternity of conscientious and responsible citizens committed to nation building through wider dimensions of thought and humanitarian values.
